Make–Ups and Missed Lessons

Please keep in mind that we are working toward progress consistently over time so it is important to keep your regular time slot on a weekly basis. I do not offer in person makeups, but there are ways we can use technology to support consistent progress.

Other Options: Options that we may consider are switching to zoom for your regularly scheduled lesson time, or the student can send me a video of their primary piece to receive feedback for progress in video format.

Refunds: Under no circumstances can tuition be refunded or credited for missed lessons. If you are planning to discontinue lessons, I need a 30 day notice to fill the spot. I appreciate your consideration.

COVID-19 Considerations: Masks are optional during our in person sessions. If you request one, or if you are experiencing symptoms we can both put masks on for the session. I am flexible with working with your personal needs. Students may also switch to zoom for illness concerns.

Lesson Preparation: A good amount of practice time varies on the ability and level of the student. We set our practice goals together each new year.Young students (under 6) require adult supervision at home and should set aside 10-15 minutes a day for practice with an adult. Older students should set aside 30-40 minutes a day for practice and one session a week for written work. Books are required at each lesson, clean fingernails and hands, and a metronome at home is always helpful!

Piano

It is important to have a piano at home that is tuned regularly. I would recommend something with weighted keys for finger development. Acoustic pianos have the most sensitive touch, but some electronic keyboards are very good. The piano shop 88 Keys here in Albuquerque is a great resource. The piano technician I recommend is Alexander Boggs (505) 480-9225. Pianos should be tuned when the air conditioning of heating comes on at the change of the seasons, at least twice a year.

Performance

The studio recital is held once a year. Students are encouraged to participate but not required, and adult students are welcome! The recitals are fun and a good way for us to get to know each other. If folks want to try performing in the recital, it’s important that they come to the group class to help prepare.

Group Lessons

Group sessions take place on Sundays and are divided by level of ability. During the fall and spring, group sessions help provide support for performance. We try out our pieces and workshop our music together. During the summer sessions in June, the group classes are devoted to creativity in music and host guest artists to work with us. If you have any questions about the group classes feel free to ask.

I look forward to working with you! If you have any questions about studio policies or anything at all, please feel free to give me a call at (505)358-6052, or e-mail me at musiclessons@monicademarco.com.
